KALALAU 1 was my first ever backpacking trip, and I loved it so much, I did it again the following year. With 3 times more people!
2 ROLLS, SHOT ON CANON AE1 PROGRAM, FD 50mm 1.8, FD 28mm 2.8
Roll 111, Fujifilm 200

L-R: JV, Einny, Anthony, and Justin aka Nambooty. We got to the trailhead the same way as my first time: by hired drivers. Really the best way as you don't have to worry about your car getting broken into.

Let's recreate the Abbey Road Pic they said. L-R: JV, Rafi, Andrea, Tyler, Amith, Anthony, me, Einny, Nambooty. Not picutred, because they were already on the trail: Cece, Gopika, and Karen. And then Lys and Eric joined us the day after.

Gotta get that same angle as Kalalau 1.

The blue crew?

Had to get a group pic at the first lookout of the trail!

Nambooty scouting the trail.

Wild fruit, but too high.

Hanakāpīʻai beach.

Everyone tries to find their own way to cross, Anthony just crosses and plays around since he's wearing sandals.

More than half of the group knew each other from acroyoga. Anthony and Einny posed here.

We finally caught up to the advance echelon!

Gopika, Cece, and Andrea. We had to beg Gopika to bring shoes and to not attempt the hike barefoot. She's a great barefoot hiker, but usually without a pack.

Lunch stop at Hanakoa Stream, no cats this time though.

The much dreaded Crawler's Ledge. I think I might have overhyped it for some.

One of my fav pics from this trip!

Finally heading down to the beach.

Andrea amongst the red dirt.

Anthony and Karen doing some morning acro.

Sea caves! This was not accessible in Kalalau 1 since the waves were too high.

JV sketching sea cliffs.

Roll 112, Fujifilm 400

Sea caves from the outside. And another frame burn.

Einny at the beach.

Took a day hike on day 3. Finally found Big Pool, which I couldn't find in the first trip. There's a rope swing in the back.

One of the hundreds of waterfalls in Kalalau Valley. This one directly feeds Big Pool.

Andrea and Einny enjoying the view of Kalalau Valley.

Final afternoon, day 3 of the trip. Half of the group went back earlier that day to either go home, or cut the hike in half by camping one night at Hanakoa.

A final sunset.

Day 4: One last view of Kalalau Beach before hiking out.

Quick break on the trail.

Lighting on this turned out really well!

Another favorite pic.

This is Katie Bird Sunshine, a trail friend.

Minimalist compo.

Hanakāpīʻai Beach, on the way out.

While everyone was resting at  Hanakāpīʻai beach, Einny and I tackled the 2 mile round trip to Hanakāpīʻai falls, adding even more miles to the 10 mile hike.

Einny after running 2 miles with me to catch the falls.

A flower from the mountain apple tree. Einny and I found groves of these trees with ripe fruit. We brought back as many as we could.

EXIT:
We got back out of the hike and we all went to get dole whip. We made sure everyone else who left earlier were safe. The driver as soon as he picked us up, told us the biggest news that we missed (since we had no cell coverage): Biden had just stepped down from the election and Kamala was taking his place. Also it was Einny's birthday!

Happy birthday, Einz!
